Way back Wednesday

Today i will look at my trip to Persepolis!

I took millions of photos but will show a few :)

First off what is Persepolis?

Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire and is situated in Modern day Iran. It is believed that Cyrus the Great chose the site of Persepolis, but that Darius the Great built the terrace and the great palaces. It was destroyed by Alexander the Great in 331 BC.

On our way

Me at The Gate of Xerxes or "The Gate of The Nations"

All visitors had to pass through this gate, because its the only entrance if you wanted to get to the terrace. The building had a room that's roof was supported by four stone columns.

The Palace of Darius taken by me

The Throne Hall taken by me

This hall was started by Xerxes and completed by his son Artaxerxes I by the end of the fifth century BC.

 A double-headed lion and me :)

 The Harem

Me at Apadana (yip that little bit at the bottom is me)

The Apadana was begun by Darius and finished by Xerxes and was used mainly for the reception of important people. Thirteen of its seventy-two columns still stand.

Thats all i have for you today!
Hope you enjoyed the show :)

  2. You know, the U.S. has two hikers in jail in Iran who wandered into their territory and are being held as spies. They were also holding a woman, but just let her go two days ago.

Did you have Iranian guards with you while you explored so they couldn't accuse you of spying or such? Did you feel safe? I know we stick our noses in everybody's business and that's why the Mideast has such hatred of us, I was just wondering if you encounter any trouble when you travel over there?

The pictures are beautiful. Tell me when you go to Egypt and I'll meet you at the pyramids. My husband can't take me. He's Jewish and I'd be afraid for him.

  3. Nope we didn't have guards, we had a tour guide tho :) Always felt safe. There were a few unpleasant people, but you find them in every country.

I must tell you that we were aware of their culture and we tried to be very respectful. Wearing the scarves etc.

I'm not sure why someone would go hiking in Iran tho. Or on the border. Just seems a bit silly. Hope they get released soon!
